So there’s definitely some Sonic in there, but you’ll also find a pinch of Ristar, some Mega Man X, a bit of inspiration from Rocket Knight Adventures, and even a little Gunstar Heroes, too. But Sonic’s just one piece of a mixture that combines several classic action game of the 16-bit era into something that stands out on its own. And to the developer’s credit, the influence has never been completely denied. Not to mention elemental shields, loop-de-loops, springs, and a very familiar, yet uniquely terrifying timer when you’re about to drown. The game uses an engine that previously powered a number of Sonic fangames, and you’ve got brightly colored animals moving at high speeds through colorful levels, tearing their way through mechanical enemies. It’s almost impossible to talk about this game with at least some comparison to Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog series. Freedom Planet is definitely an exception to this rule, and a great homage to an era of gaming not often covered. They certainly exist, but you’re always more likely to find something that takes inspiration from games like Mega Man and Contra, as opposed to, say, Rocket Knight Adventures. And that’s all well and good, but when it comes to retro stylings, it always seems like the 16-bit era and beyond has always been tragically ignored. Often, however, a lot of these games will take their ideas from the games of generations past, particularly where the NES is concerned. Independent games tend to cover pretty much every sort of genre and inspiration one could possibly think of. ![]()

As support for Rosetta was dropped in Mac OS X Lion, Snow Leopard is also the last version that is able to run PowerPC-only applications. Snow Leopard is the last release of Mac OS X to support the 32-bit Intel Core Solo and Duo CPUs. Since then, Apple has continued to sell Snow Leopard from its online store for the benefit of users that require Snow Leopard in order to upgrade to later versions of OS X, which have all been distributed through the Mac App Store introduced in the Mac OS X 10.6.6 update. Snow Leopard was succeeded by Mac OS X Lion (version 10.7) on July 20, 2011. Snow Leopard was also made available as part of a Mac Box Set that included iLife and iWork. The release of Snow Leopard came nearly two years after the introduction of Mac OS X Leopard, the second longest time span between successive Mac OS X releases (the time span between Tiger and Leopard was the longest). As a result of the low price, initial sales of Snow Leopard were significantly higher than that of its predecessors. On August 28, 2009, it was released worldwide, and was made available for purchase from Apple's website and its retail stores at the price of US$29 for a single-user license. Snow Leopard was publicly unveiled on June 8 at the 2009 Worldwide Developers Conference. This is also the first Mac OS release since System 7.1.1 that does not support Macs using PowerPC processors, as Apple now intends to focus on its current line of Intel-based products. New programming frameworks, such as OpenCL, were created, allowing software developers to use graphics cards in their applications. Much of the software in Mac OS X was extensively rewritten for this release in order to take advantage fully of modern Macintosh hardware. Addition of new end-user features was not a primary consideration: its name was intended to signify its goal to be a refinement of its predecessor, Mac OS X Leopard. Unlike previous versions of Mac OS X, the goals of Snow Leopard were improved performance, greater efficiency and the reduction of its overall memory footprint. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you’re taking rogue levels, arcane trickster hands down. While you can calculate an estimated BMR using a BMR calculator (which utilizes the following formulas or accepted variations), calculations are only estimates. Other factors affecting Basal Metabolic Rate include the total surface area of the body (higher surface area requires higher BMR to maintain body temperature), the presence of a fever or other physical stressors (which can raise BMR), fasting or starvation (both reduce BMR), smoking and caffeine (both increase BMR), sleep (reduces BMR), and emotional stress (increases BMR). Individuals with normal to elevated thyroxine levels (as found in hyperthyroidism) experience higher BMR than those with reduced thyroxine levels (as found in hypothyroidism). The hormone thyroxine, produced in the thyroid, directly impacts BMR. For this reason, men tend to have higher BMR than women based on average body composition.( 2) Those with high body fat have a much lower BMR because fatty tissue requires very little energy to be maintained. Individuals with higher lean body mass-meaning more muscle-have a higher BMR than those without, as muscle requires significant energy to be maintained. As we age, our BMR slows as our body shifts from an anabolic (building) state to a catabolic (breaking-down) state. Remember that cheeseburger, fries, and milkshake that ‘magically disappears’ when a teenager eats it? This is why. Children and adolescents generally have a very high BMR because their bodies are in a constant state of growth, which requires a constant supply of food in order to gain energy. Most notable are age, body shape, body composition, and hormones. On average, this sum is approximately 60-70% of a person's total daily energy expenditure.īecause BMR measures these activities while at complete rest, a true calculation of BMR can only be done after a 12-hour fast and a good night's rest and in the absence of any physical activity or emotional excitement, as these factors can temporarily influence metabolic rate. A BMR calculator measures the sum of kilocalories required to maintain these essential body functions. The majority of these essential functions continue mostly unnoticed-things like the heart beating, the lungs inhaling and exhaling air, the kidneys filtering waste, new cell creation, maintaining proper body temperature, and more. Understanding your BMR may help you determine how best to eat for your body type, and using a BMR calculator is an easy way to find this number.īut better yet, understanding what a BMR calculator is actually measuring and knowing how to change your BMR might get you one step closer to your fitness goals.īasal Metabolic Rate, known as BMR, is the rate at which the body expends energy to maintain essential life functions while at complete rest. BMR is responsible for approximately 60-70% of the total calories you burn each day.( 1) It plays a key role in determining whether the body burns that double bacon cheeseburger for energy or stores it as fat. The answer, or at least a good explanation for this, is rooted in what's known as Basal Metabolic Rate, or BMR. Have you ever watched a teenager devour a towering double bacon cheeseburger, a plate full of fries, and a tall chocolate milkshake and wondered, "How do you eat like that and not gain weight?" Maybe you've started to notice that your pants have been feeling a bit snug around the waist, even though you're still eating the same healthy diet and following the same exercise routine of years past. ![]() ![]() ![]() More information on LAG and shipping hereįor further inquiries and concerns, please contact us.
